Federal Court to Hear Troy Davis Case

Published November 21, 2008 @ 05:17AM PST

The federal appeals court in Atlanta will hear Troy Davis' appeals for a new trial on December 9th, the latest development in a saga that has seen Davis come within hours of execution three times. His attorneys are seeking to present new evidence that seven of nine eyewitnesses admit they lied when they implicated Davis at trial, but no court has ever heard this evidence.

Georgia courts and the U.S. Supreme Court have said Davis doesn't have the right to present new evidence of his innocence after exhausting his standard appeals. But the federal 11th Circuit Court stayed his execution on Oct. 24 to hear more on the case.

Your voice can make a difference in this case. Sign the pledge to support Davis today, and send an email to Gov. Sonny Perdue urging him to grant clemency.
